Prayer for Caregivers (inspired by Mother Teresa)

Lord,

Supreme Physician who heals and restores,
I kneel before You,
for from You come every good and every perfect gift.

You have chosen me to serve You,
to comfort You and to care for You
in the poorest of the poor, afflicted and diminished in body, heart, and spirit.

Make me fully aware of the privilege it is
to be at Your service.

Please give my hand skill and loving gentleness,
my mind insight,
my mouth words that bring peace,
my eyes tenderness and kindness,
and my heart all the love You expect.

Grant that I may not count the time I will spend at Your side in your suffering.

Grant me the grace to commit myself sincerely to Your service,
and give me strength to take upon myself, for love of You, a share
in the burden of my suffering brothers and sisters.

Remove from my heart all scruple and all worldliness,
so that, with the simple faith of a child, I may lean on You.

Amen

We first discovered this prayer when we recited it in French together with the students of l'Aumônerie des étudiants du Monde de la Santé – Paris at the conference in Paray-le-Monial in 2026. These young participants prayed the prayer with great devotion, and many of them knew it by heart. Thank you for sharing this with us! It can inspire us to entrust our healthcare work to God. (The text is a personal translation from French into English)
